EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

EMDR was originally purposed for alleviating symptoms of PTSD.  Today it is found to help with the symptomatology of other disorders as well including anxiety disorders and depression.

While the exact mechanism by which EMDR appears to work is the subject of controversy and remains unknown, the key concept is to recall traumatic events while simultaneously following a stimuli (such as a therapist's hand or other object) back and forth.

The lead developer of EMDR says that it is dual stimulation - in this case recalling past events while simultaneously following another stimuli - which leads to therapeutic results.

Pursuit of Happiness has therapists who practice EMDR.  If you or someone you know is interested in giving this type of treatment a try, please give us a call.
