PARENTING AND CHILDREN

Being a parent should have come with an instruction manual issued by the doctor who delivered your kids.  But it didn't.  There's all kinds of information about how to be good parents, what makes a bad parent, and how to have a happy family.

Here's a couple highlights.

There are basically 4 different parenting styles, authoritarian (my way or the highway), neglectful (parent not around or paying attention), permissive (parent tries to be the kid's friend and indulges things that should not be indulged), and authoritative (parent make a collaborative effort with child to set rules and boundaries and consistently sticks to them).

Which is best?

Years of research shows us that the authoritative approach to parenting tends to see the best results.  How do you become an authoritative parent?

That's where we come in.

Maybe you've tried everything you can think of and you still can't seem to get control of your kid's behavior.  That's ok.  Parents aren't perfect, and kids aren't perfect either.

Being an authoritative parent is the first step.  The second step is the recognition that as your child matures, they are going to require more and more freedom.

This freedom must be earned with trust, but then it must be given.  You have to have the courage as parents to allow your kids to fail a litte.  It's how we learn.  If you refuse the proper amount of age correlated freedom, there will be a rebellion.

At Pursuit of Happiness we can show you the ins and outs of how to be a good parent, how to properly discipline your kid, and how to teach them to grow into as adult you can be proud of.
